Church History

Good Shepherd

Good Shepherd Church, Sanpada was formed in the year 2004 when Fr. Anthony Correia, a Pallottine priest was appointed as the first Priest-in-Charge. The Pallottines were faced with the daunting task of building up the parish community and the procurement of a plot of land to build a church. The baton for this uphill task was carried forward by Fr. Valentine, Fr. Jerome,

Fr. Manfred, Fr. Aloysius, Fr. Manohar, Fr. Lawrence, Fr. Ranjit, Fr. Jesudas, Fr. Ralph and Fr. Paul.

The fervent prayers of our parishioners, present and past, seems to have found an answer as the Archdiocese of Bombay stepped in to procure a plot of 498sq.meters for the parish. Cardinal Oswald Gracias then appointed Fr. Vincent Thomas a diocesan priest as the Priest-in-Charge on 1st June 2016.

Our Parish has always been a symbol of unity in diversity with its multilingual parishioners coming from all parts of the nation and yet living as one family in Christ. The Parish has 8 small Christian Communities with 211 families and 721 family members.

The communities are St. Mother Theresa, St. Vincent Pallotti, St. Anthony, St. Joseph, Our Lady of Fatima, Our Lady of Perpetual Succour, Infant Jesus & St. Lawrence.

Our church website was inaugurated on 04th Aug 2013 by Most Reverend Bishop Agnelo Gracias during his visit to the parish on the occasion of Vianney Sunday. And now after 10 years we have purchased our own website & re-launching it on 15th August 2023 on the occasion of the Assumption of our Blessed Virgin Mary & our Nations Independence Day.

Even though we did not have our own church building, the parishioners did not give up on community building and to get together at feast days and various functions. We conducted mass and celebrated feast days in school halls, rental open places, auditorium and our small chapel in Sector 5, Sanpada. The parishoners along with our Parish Priest, started visiting various parishes across Mumbai to collect funds for our church building project. On Sunday, 24th March 2019 we laid down the Foundation Stone of Our  Church Building Project in the presence of Bishop Allwyn D'Silva.

The pastoral innings of Fr. Vincent Thomas Priest-in-Charge of Good Shepherd Church came to an end on 31st May, 2019. The parishioners organized a farewell for Fr. Vincent Thomas who played a vital role for our church building project inspite of his age and health issues. On 01st June 2019 we welcomed our new Priest-in-Charge, Fr. Francis Noronha to continue our dream project and to keep the flame burning in all our hearts. After putting our best foot forward and no stone left unturned by Fr. Francis, we finally got all the required permissions along with the approval from the Archdiocese to begin the church building construction on 01st March 2021. Cardinal Oswald Gracious visited our parish to meet the parishioners and also the proposed church land plot. As the construction work is going on in full swing, we expect our church building to be completed by December 2023.

Kindly keep our church building project in your prayers.
